Neuro-affirming Counselling for Children, Teenagers & Young People in North Leeds, surrounding areas and Online

Helping Young People Feel Calmer, More Confident and More Like Themselves

Being a child or young person isn't always easy.

Many young people today are carrying enormous pressures whilst trying to navigate school, friendships, family life, social media, exams, identity, and their own emotional wellbeing.

Sometimes these struggles can leave them feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, misunderstood, angry, lonely, or simply not good enough.

At Towards Tranquility Therapy, Liz and Rachel provide compassionate, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming counselling for children, teenagers and young people, both face-to-face in Leeds and online.

We offer a safe, supportive space where young people can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences without fear of judgement or pressure.

Our approach is:

Curious – not challenging
We seek to understand what is happening beneath behaviours and emotions rather than asking "What's wrong with you?"

Nurturing – not judgemental
We recognise that every young person is doing the best they can with the resources available to them.

Centred on them – not forced on them

We work alongside young people at their pace, helping them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and what they need.

Support for Anxiety, Trauma, ADHD & Autism

Many of the young people we work with are experiencing anxiety, trauma, emotional overwhelm, ADHD, Autism, or a combination of these experiences.

We understand that behaviours often make sense when viewed through the lens of a young person's nervous system, experiences and environment.

Rather than focusing on what is "wrong", we help young people understand:

  • Why anxiety feels so overwhelming

  • How their nervous system responds to stress

  • The impact of difficult experiences

  • Their emotions and what they are trying to communicate

  • Their strengths as well as their struggles

  • How ADHD or Autism may influence their experiences

  • How to recognise and communicate their needs

  • Ways to build emotional safety and self-compassion

A Flexible Approach Tailored To Your Child

Every young person is different.

Some young people find it easier to talk.  Others communicate more comfortably through creativity, drawing, visualisation, metaphors, games, practical activities or exploring emotions in less direct ways.

Our counselling sessions are tailored to the individual young person sitting in front of us.

There is no expectation to talk about difficult experiences before they are ready.

Instead, we focus on creating safety, trust and understanding first, this is the core of trauma informed support.

For Parents & Carers

Watching your child struggle can feel heartbreaking.  You may have tried everything you can think of and still feel unsure how best to help.

Counselling provides your child with a safe, independent space to explore what they are experiencing whilst also helping them develop greater self-understanding, emotional awareness and resilience.

We understand the importance of working sensitively with both young people and parents throughout the counselling process.

We offer counselling for children, teenagers and young people in Leeds or Online:

✓ Face-to-face in Leeds
✓ Online across the UK
